Seven Days Says:

Amateur gardeners, farmers and horticulturists converge for a three-day preview of spring that features a "faerie forest."

Rooms of Blooms

Daffodils and tulips won’t start sprouting for another month or so, but winter-weary green thumbs can get excited about gardening again as soon as this weekend. The Vermont Flower Show forms a three-day extravaganza emphasizing playfulness and sustainable local produce. Amenities include a star-gazing tent, a treehouse, pro and amateur floral competitions, a “faerie forest” with wee houses, and more than 11,500 forced spring bulbs. Backyard hobbyists from the Vermont Garden Railways Society exhibit moving trains in a green landscape, kids get their hands dirty in an activity room, educational seminars cover topics from composting to living seasonally, and local-food cooking demos showcase eight area chefs. Between 9 and 10 each morning, for an extra $5, early birds can catch pro landscaper and show designer Rebecca Lindenmeyr’s private tour of spring — indoors.
