Painted by media outlets nationwide as some divine offspring of Nick Drake, Bob Dylan and/or Tom Waits, Washington DC songwriter Vandaveer is no stranger to lofty comparisons. Hyperbole aside, the moody chamber-folk tunesmith actually is worthy of such high praise — at least as much as anyone possibly could be. Fans of the aforementioned holy trinity will undoubtedly swoon to the intimate, sonorous strains of his latest album Divide and Conquer, as will fans of indie-folk torchbearers such as Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes or Vetiver.
