Vermont is hardly a bastion of major-label music. So when native sons or daughters sign a pact with a heavyweight imprint, it’s kind of a big deal. Such is the case with radio-ready pop-rock outfit The Urgency, who will release their debut album on Island/Def Jam in early 2009. Three of the group’s five members claim Vermont roots, including dynamic front man Tyler Gurwicz, a Champlain Valley Union High School grad. This Tuesday, the band returns for a hometown show at the Higher Ground Showcase Lounge with Boston’s Kid:Nap:Kin and local indie-rock favorites In Memory of Pluto.
