Travel doesn’t get more American than the cross-country road trip. Photographer Thomas Fuss, in his show “Backroads America” at Morrisville’s River Arts Center, takes viewers on that classic coast-to-coast pilgrimage. With his Linhof Technorama S III camera, he captures natural wonders such as Monument Valley, the arched rocks of Moab, Utah, and the California redwoods, as well as manmade attractions: Graceland, the Bonneville Salt Flats during Speed Week and the murder sites in Truman Capote's In Cold Blood. But, as any road tripper knows, it’s often the obscure wonders by the side of the road that turn out to be the most remarkable. Fuss gives these “in between” places their due. Through January 7.
