Local performers Kathryn Blume and Jason Lorber, author Jim Merkel and members of the "Eco-Cabaret" help sustain spirits with a look at the lighter side of environmentalism, presented by the Vermont Earth Institute.

Mirth Day

As the polar ice caps liquefy, concern about our environment is vital to our survival. But so is a sense of humor. In this fundraiser for the Vermont Earth Institute, a collection of local performers with steadfast green convictions come together to explore the lighter side of striving to live more lightly on this Earth. Actress Kathryn Blume presents an excerpt from her updated eco-Lysistrata, The Boycott, and a new piece about the dilemma of finding sustainably produced jeans that fit. State rep and standup comic Jason Lorber finds punchlines in peak oil; Radical Simplicity author Jim Merkel makes a stop on his statewide consciousness-raising bike tour; and cartoons by Brookfield’s Ed Koren sustain the laughter. Reuse, recycle, rejoice.
