How many fascinating rhythms can an evening hold? That question stimulates STOMP, a sophisticated stage dance wherein eight young percussionists make beat-based music “out of anything we can get our hands on,” says co-creator and director Luke Cresswell. Including themselves: Barrages of fancy footwork, hand clapping and chest-thumping make the human body into a sounding board. Stiff-bristle push brooms become a sweeping orchestra, Zippo lighters flip to create a fiery fugue, and wooden poles thump and clack.
