Rubblebucket Orchestra are on firmly the cusp of establishing themselves as one of the most exciting touring bands in the country. Not bad for a band born out of an impromptu jam session at the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival in 2007, right? The 2009 Boston Music Awards nominees — and 2008 Seven Daysies award winners! — are beginning to collect reams of national press as they thrill audiences from coast to coast with their singular blend of hot-blooded Afro-funk and balls-to-the-wall rock attitude. This Friday, the band makes a homecoming of sorts with a show at the Higher Ground Ballroom to celebrate the release of their stunning self-titled sophomore album. They’ll be joined by old friends Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, and fresh-faced local upstarts Bearquarium.
