The goal of a comedian and a songwriter is essentially the same: to weave a compelling story. It makes sense, then, that Vermont’s Nathan Brady Crain succeeds in both disciplines. As a standup, “The Reverend” spins raunchy, R-rated tales that leave audiences in stitches. But under his given name — and often aided by local music luminaries such as Gordon Stone and Christopher Peterman — he writes insightful, heartfelt tunes rooted in various strains of Americana, from country to blues. This week Crain embarks on a mini-tour throughout the state with shows Thursday at Montpelier’s Black Door Bar and Bistro, Friday at the Purple Moon Pub in Waitsfield, and Wednesday, January 27, at Charlie O’s in Montpelier.
