It probably won’t be long before the whole world knows about Ra Ra Riot. Having recently garnered heaps of praise from tastemaking heavyweights such as Rolling Stone, Pitchfork Media and Entertainment effin’ Weekly, the band is no longer among hipsterdom’s best-kept secrets. But if ever a group deserved the success, it’s this Syracuse quintet. In much the same way that Arcade Fire’s Funeral stunned indie aesthetes with breathtaking, orchestral chamber-pop, Ra Ra Riot’s debut The Rhumb Line is a simultaneously bracing and heartbreaking affair.
