Veteran radio stars and guests, including Tom Bodett, The Horse Flies and The Lost Fingers, take the stage for a special "Champlain" edition of music, comedy and spoken word.

On the Radio

If you take the phrase “a face meant for radio” to heart, you could miss out. Vermonters who caught the inaugural “Queen City Radio Hour” last winter know watching a radio taping can be way more fun than just catching the sound waves. Produced by filmmaker and Burlington International Waterfront Festival producer Jay Craven, the show is back at the Flynn with a spirited “Champlain edition” of comedy, music and narrative in honor of the lake’s big 4-0-0. NPR star Tom Bodett hosts this boisterous broadcast, with special guests such as Québecois gypsy-jazz band The Lost Fingers, Anaïs Mitchell, Tantoo Cardinal and Rusty Dewees. Craven, who hopes to make the show a more frequent affair, told WCAX earlier this year, “The sense of place in Vermont is so strong. Why wouldn’t we have our own entertainment?” Maybe it’s time to wish Lake Wobegon farewell and tune your dial to this Lake Champlain offshoot.
