Stowe's only delivering pizzeria is also its most funky and accommodating. Piecasso Pizzeria & Lounge offers sizzling-hot discs, but also a comfy lounge with cosmopolitan décor and Picasso-inspired artwork, plus a few choice prints by the master himself.
The Mountain Road establishment benefits from its proximity to the slopes, but it's also ideal for après-shopping or post-Stowe Bike Path. Drink specials and occasional live music are big draws. So are fun, DJ-driven events such as '80s dance parties and a weekly reggae night.
Even though the dominant vibe at Piecasso is cool and casual, someone —presumably owner Eduardo Rovetto — sweats the details. All the Vermont beers are marked as such, for example — to help folks from out of state support the local economy. The Bloody Marys and watermelon martinis aren't made with any old vodka; they feature organic Vermont Sunshine vodka, made right in Stowe.
Choosing from among the specialty pizzas isn't easy. "Tree hugger," the vegetarian favorite, is topped with spinach, basil, tomatoes, garlic and onions, with mozzarella and your choice of marinara or white garlic sauce. Looking for something less PC? Have a delicious slice of "carcass," a symphony of meat in which pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon and meatballs converge. Or build your own pie from a list of ingredients that includes a few rarely seen options: banana peppers, fresh basil and ricotta.
All pizzas arrive on Piecasso's amazing New York-style crust, which is perfectly crispy on the outside and just soft enough on the inside. For those who like to mix it up, sandwiches, panini, calzones and stromboli are also available.
