New York Dolls, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears

Wednesday, June 24, 8:30PM at Higher Ground Ballroom in South Burlington. $20/25. AA.

Welcome to the Dollhouse

In the beginning, there were the New York Dolls. And they were, well, fabulous. In their heyday, the NYC outfit was as cutting edge as it gets, resting comfortably in the pantheon of proto-punk alongside The MC5 and Iggy & the Stooges. But the Dolls’ significance exceeds just laying the groundwork for punk rock. Ira Robbins of the legendary music ’zine Trouser Press famously credited the band with singlehandedly forging the NYC rock scene that would birth The Ramones, Television and The Talking Heads. The Dolls’ flair for the theatric also begat the glam-rock and New Wave scenes of the early 1980s. With a newly released, Todd Rundgren-produced album in tow, the Dolls’ surviving members will visit the Higher Ground Ballroom on Wednesday, June 24, with Austin soul upstarts Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears.
