Seven Days Says:

Thirteen award-winning human-rights films get exposure at a five-day cinema celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.

Pipelines of Sight

Now in its sixth year, the MountainTop Film Festival espouses the goals Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. urged on his followers: civil rights, justice and peace. Thirteen films address conflicts over natural resources and militarism at home and abroad. Recruiter profiles a Louisiana-based U.S. Army sergeant, I.O.U.S.A. examines the country’s financial crisis, and To See If I Am Smiling looks at Israeli women’s military service. (The festival website fleshes out the five-day schedule with film profiles and filmmaker Q&As.) Also on the roster: Feminist scholar and social justice activist Naomi Wolf (pictured) speaks at a 7 p.m. Saturday screening of The End of America. Based on Wolf’s book of the same title, the doc calls on liberty-loving citizens to challenge Bush administration suspensions of the rule of law. Committed viewers can snag five tickets for $30, or see all 13 flicks for $70.
