The Louisiana-born alt-country chanteuse dips into witty, gritty songs from her new album Little Honey.

Honey, Do

Grammy-winning folk-rock-country balladeer Lucinda Williams has been writing music for most of her life, but fame for her gritty, heartbreakingly honest tunes came only after two and a half decades in the profession. Long championed by Tom Petty, Emmylou Harris and others who’ve covered her catalogue, Williams proves that persistence pays. Car Wheels on a Gravel Road (1998) and World Without Tears (2003) earned the bluesy, Louisiana-born singer-guitarist a rep for darkly introspective songs she describes as “boy meets girl, boy leaves girl, girl gets bummed out.” In a concert tour stop this weekend, the fiftysomething chanteuse explores sweeter territory with tunes from her 2008 album Little Honey — lauded as one of the year’s top discs by Rolling Stone and Spin. Hear what a happy Williams sounds like at a buzz-worthy performance backed by her band Buick 6.
