Six years of song writing and introspection culminated in the release of k.d. lang’s most recent and eclectic album, Watershed. With a little bit of jazz, a touch of country, some Brazilian undertones, and even pop, the genre-jumping, Grammy-winning Canadian songbird has soared to even greater heights. The self-produced album, showcasing her bring-down-the-house vocals in more intimate and understated songs, stands out in lang’s more than 25-year career. “I was ready to conquer the world, and my voice was just an extension of my exuberance,” says lang of her early years. Now her voice meets soulful lyrics, strings and guitars in the style that she says “really feels like the way I hear music.”
