No, not that Julia Stiles. This Julia Stiles isn’t a Hollywood starlet but a 22-year-old, self-taught artist from Maine. Her paintings are at Shelburne’s All Souls Interfaith Gathering through April 27 in a show called “Visual Passages Through the New Testament.” Stiles uses black and colored ink with watercolor washes to bring Bible passages to life. If you look closely, you can see her inspiration: William Blake’s illustrations, Honoré Daumier’s political cartoons and Georges Rouault’s sad clowns. The result is a series of images that would be right at home in the stained glass of a cathedral. Pictured: “Behold Thy King Cometh.”
