Seven Days Says:

"Merging Continuums," Japanese-style dyed textiles and precious-metal monoprints.

Joan Morris

Taking tie-dye to a whole new level, the artist responsible for some of the stunning textiles in The Lion King on Broadway explores the ancient Japanese dying process called shibori to create shimmering, multilayered prints on shaped-resist dyed ground. The result is a series of elegant prints that play with perspective, overlaying lacelike 22-karat gold on colorful floral backgrounds. Morris’ exhibit, called “Merging Continuums,” is at BigTown Gallery in Rochester through November 21. Pictured: “Opening,” 38 by 25 inches, 22k gold/platinum monoprint.
