Amid the ever-evolving landscape of electronic dance music, it can be a challenge for the EDM layperson to know just what, exactly, he or she is shaking one’s ass to at any given moment. Is it dubstep? Brostep? Moombahton? Fortunately, fans of Infected Mushroom suffer no such conflicts of musical identity. The Israeli-born, LA-based duo invented its own EDM genre, “psychedelic trance music,” in the 1990s as a synth-y, beat-heavy response to the analog rock sounds dominating airwaves at the time. As EDM explodes two decades later, they’re still going strong. This Saturday, January 12, the duo brings its Fungusamongus tour to the Higher Ground Ballroom. The M Machine open.
