News that Grace Potter & the Nocturnals are once again headlining a three-night stand at the Higher Ground Ballroom leading up to New Year’s Eve isn’t really, well, news anymore. Locally, it’s as much an auld lang “sign” as the ball dropping in New York City’s Times Square. But the selection of opening acts for each show is often overlooked. The highlight this year: local truckstop rockers Waylon Speed, who cap off a busy 2010 with designs on an even bigger 2011. Take our advice, GPN fans. On Wednesday, December 29, get to the Ballroom early and catch yet another ascending Vermont rock band.
