Growing up obsessed with Japanese candy, I already associated cartoon cat from outerspace, Doraemon with food. Even I, though, have never seen him as he appears at the bottom of this page.
How do they do it? According to this article, the regular, ol' green rice is planted as a base with purple and yellow strains of the kodaimi variety, indigenous to Inakadate in the Aomori prefecture, where the fields are located.
Here are pictures of the 2007 harvest. Look familiar? Someone please step up and do this in Vermont!
