On Tuesday, June 30, at 5:30 p.m., be one of the first people to experience the cuisine at Burlington's Bluebird Tavern, scheduled to open to the public on July 4.

Fifteen Bite Club members and their guests will get a special sneak peek at Chef Aaron Josinsky's "gastropub" fare. The menu will include oysters, poutine, cracklin's and a charcuterie board. A cash bar may be available, depending on the permitting process.

To register, hit reply and answer this question: "Why do you think Burlington needs a 'gastropub.'"

You must answer by the end of the day on Wednesday to qualify. Winners will be notified on Thursday, June 25 via email.

we need a gastropub because i am tired of the same old soggy sweet potato fries at church street tavern, the alchemist is too far away, and i can't stand that you have to pay for a soda refill at VPB.

thanks Suzanne!

Because I live walking distance from it, and want good, high quality family friendly fare!  Plus, I am a sucker for typography love their sign and am sick of walking biking driving past yet another empty building!

Burlington has always been a a haven for new and unique restaurants. The Bluebird Tavern is no exception. It will be nice to have upper scale pub fare a little off the beaten path. The bars and pub downtown are great, but having another option, especially in the growing Old North End, will be a nice change. We need our own "Alchemist" here in Burlington.

We need a gastropub because I had NO idea what one was (oh thank you, Wikipedia masters).  So now when people ask me what kind of restaurant is The Bluebird, I can say, "Duh... it's the Anglo-equivalent of the French brasserie or the Japanese izakaya, of course."

Burlington aspires to be the quintessential laid back city that’s “close to Vermont”.   While the quality of the available restaurant food has increased greatly in the last decade, we have little that combines high culinary aspirations with a down home atmosphere.  Sure, a place to work through the dozen microbrews, with a sampling of tasty comfort food, would be a great addition to the banks of the onion river.  We’re max’d out on pizza and oriental and need to be saved from the invasion of the franchise eateries.
Thanks in advance, Bluebird.

There was a time when those of us living in this part of the Queen City called Riverside Drive "Ward One's Waterfront," and have always wanted a good restaurant there. Could it be that Bluebird Tavern will join Pho Hong on our very short list of neighborhood restaurants in Burlington with reliably good and high value fare? One can hope!

In this age of beer battered & Beansie's fries, I'm craving the yummy poutine fries from Canada, which are hard to find here in the Burlington area  Tongue

Also, I miss having a nice place to eat that's a little off the Church Street path, but still in Burlington  Wink

Because food should taste good, and make you feel good.  Food should be simple and understated, but delicious and filling.  Food should be unpretentious, but make you feel like you've just been part of soemthing special.

Burlington was ranked one of the "Top 10 cities for Beer Lovers" in 2006. Since then, we have mastered the brewpub scene and now need a gastropub so we can have something better than the usual dodgy bar fare of limp fries or free popcorn. We are already known for our solid drinks, now we need to innovate to become known for both quality food (gastro) and beer selection (pub). I've been looking forward to the Bluebird's opening since I heard of it & only hope that its chefs can cook as well & reliably as our local brewers make great beer. Smiley

Two things Burlington does really well are food and beer.  Enter: Gastro-pub.  Brilliant.
I am proud to be a Burlingtonian for many reasons, not least of which are the incredible food culture and the ubiquity of creative, delicious Vermont brews.  Welcome Bluebird gastropub!

Burlington needs a place where you can have bar food that's as great as our local brews!  There have been too many years of jalapeno poppers!

We need a gastro-pub to stay on the cutting edge of the culinary world. Burlington is well known as a food mecca. This is a great development since we don't have anything close to this. I love variety when I dine out and this is a great addition to the local landscape. I love that it is on Riverside Avenue, which could use a little boost.
Welcome Bluebird!

Tortilla Flat might be a tough act to follow (at least in my book  Wink), but what better place for this totally new concept! The Greater Burlington population craves great beer, and great food ... if both are good ... they will come Cool ... and so will we!! Please invite us to your "earlybird" taste-test @ The Bluebird Tavern!!
