We've all thought about it, some less seriously than others, but if you were to open a restaurant of your own, what would it be?

When I was in third grade, I wrote about wanting to open an upscale mulit-ethnic food court, where there's birthday cake for dessert. The Bearded Frog beat me to that last part, but I stand by the rest.

I've also been obsessed my whole life with automats. I'm just old enough to have been to Horn and Hardart a few times before it died. Bamn! in New York has brought it back, but I'd like to see more of a movement.

What are your ideas?

Okay Alice, I'll bite - My idea is for a retro down-to-earth dine-in or take-away place to make the same food the Lunch Ladies would serve in grade school.  On the menu: macaroni cheese, pigs n' blankets, meatloaf and mashed potatoes with gravy, chicken and biscuits, sloppy Joes, sausage gravy n' biscuits, tuna noodle casserole, S.O.S. - you get the idea.  Drinks always include white or chocolate milk (in the small paper cartons). And for dessert: chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting or peanut butter cookies.
