Hi,
I was just asked the question and figured that this would be a good place to start.
Is it too late to plant hops for this season?
any good growing tips?
thanks!

It's probably a bit late for this year as you've missed a lot of growth already.  Here's a pic of the hops that the Alchemist is growing this year - http://www.alchemistbeer.com/a-hoppy-june/.

Other tips -
- give each plant sufficient room
- they love to climb, a strong high trellis is critical
- make sure you prune each plant to a single runner in early spring
- they can be a bit invasive!  When I decided to stop growing, it took a bit of work to stop them from coming back each year.

Also, here's some info from UVM on growing hops in the northeast - http://www.uvm.edu/~pass/perry/hops.html

Cheers!
