I am throwing myself at the feet of my fellow VT foodies for advice on where to find dried Polish mushrooms (Burowiki) locally. I want to make a traditional Polish Mushroom-Barley Soup for Christmas, but don't have the time to travel to Montreal. Any ideas or recommendations? Mail order is okay, but I've only found places in Poland (and I'm loathe to ship internationally without knowing the merchant is reliable.)

Have you tried A Taste of Europe in Winooski. They have all sorts of Eastern European and Russian specialties. If they don't have Burowiki, I bet they'll order them for you.

Thanks, Alice. I'm waiting to see if they get a shipment in. In the meantime, I have asked my mother in Detroit to send me some. I'm afraid there's no real substitute, and if you've ever had real Polish Mushroom Barley Soup, you will be smitten for life.
