Shocking but true, Vermont is one of 3 states (VT, WA, MT) left with outdated laws dictating parents as not equal (Title 15 §V.S.A.665(b6)). These laws state one parent is the "primary care provider" for children, the other the "visitor". The "visiting" parent has virtually no say in their child's life; they are not allowed to take their child to the doctor (except in emergency), not allowed to enroll their child in a class, and perhaps not even to schedule enrichment activities such as gymnastics or piano.

Don't children deserve both parents? Shouldn't all Vermonters be assumed equal? If you think Vermonters should be assumed equal as parents, please visit www.vtfreetoparent.org. And if anyone can better explain why Vermont believes parents are not equal, please help explain this! Thanks.

Uhm.... Maybe you should talk to your state legislator about repealing or amending this law.  It is clearly not actually being enforced.  I mean, have any of you actually heard about someone not being allowed to take their kid to the hospital or sign a release form for medical treatment because they were a visiting parent?

Also, how does this relate to food?  Are visiting parents not allowed to force their kids to eat brussel sprouts? Smiley

I just think we should have laws that make sense! Also, clearly this relates to food because it is food for thought! Smiley
