We own Hen of the Wood and have lots of ideas for a second place. The Smokejacks space, even with all of its' negatives, seems like a great place to do something similar to the Hen but priced more like our former Monday night thing - all local, daily changing menu, cheeses, small plates, tartines, home -made pastas and gnocchi, simple protein preparations, charcuterie...what does everyone think? - be honest and creative...

I think The Hen would be a perfect fit with a bistro type menu including maybe a raw bar menu, and great wines by the glass, flight, and bottle. This would appeal to many people including the Flynn crowd, restaurant biz people (of course that means staying open fairly late), and those that appreciate the great dishes served up at The Hen with a slight twist. I for one would enjoy sitting at the bar with a dozen oysters and a couple glasses of wine, kind of like a Burlington version of Bouchon in Napa. Just keep doing what you do, the words of kindness and appreciation are well deserved !

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Hen of the Wood folks! We would go there ALL the time, I swear. I love Hen of the Wood but it's such a hike from BUrlington that we don't go more then a couple of times per year. We would go weekly if it was in Burlington!!!!

I want to see more dirty hippies bumming for change there. I think it does wonders for the area.
Or maybe a Church of Scientology.

We go to Hen of the Wood quite often. Would love to see a spin off in the former Smokejacks space. I think the two could work well together. Waterbury would keep the beautiful setting and Burlington would get a fine locally sourced restaurant in a prominent location at the entrance to the Church Street Marketplace.

As a fan of Smokejacks, I was disappointed when it was closed. A culinary experience was missing. There is nothing in downtown Burlington that had that same presence of food, pricing, and atmosphere. I found it to be a great experience for people I was introducing to Burlington. It had that local flair, local ingredients, and every changing tastes.
Hen of the Wood is a great fill-in for the vacancy. I hope that it will maintain the local flavors and maintain the downtown environment much in the way it embraces the atmosphere of the mill in the Waterbury experience. Provide good local steak options.... lamb... chicken. Continue to be an ambassador of Vermont... Burlington... and great food.

I would like it if the place had some creative vegetarian options other than marinated vegetables. Marinated vegetables can be tasty but some other choices would be so nice! There are some neat things you can do with tofu. I think non-vegetarians would order vegetarian items!
