Here is another thought that often perplexes me:  If people only bought "local", what would that mean for Vermont apple growers, maple syrup producers, cheese makers, etc. if people outside this area felt the same way and stopped buying Vermont products ?  Imagine that..... Are jobs and the livelihood of Vermonter's somehow more important than that of someone outside this area ?  What defines "local" ? Only Vermont  ? Withing 10, 100, 500 miles ?  What about items not grown/raised/produced in Vermont ?  I buy seasonal produce, VT Cheese, some meat, syrup, and a few other items that are high quality and to me, represent fair value and are native to Vermont.  I have yet to find a decent red wine made in Vermont, I enjoy beer from both Vermont as well as other brewers around the globe, and enjoy citrus and other fruit which is not native to Vermont.  Sometimes I really want a tomato in December and buy grape tomatoes from wherever they are avaialble.  If I have the choice between Peru and Florida, I choose Florida.   Additionally, I have been to plenty of "farmer's markets" that feature vendors peddling crappy trinkets made in Taiwan and China.  That is complete bull$hit to me.
