Hi all! I need your help. I am having Greek food withdrawals, but it really seems like there aren't any great Greek restaurants in the Burlington area. Ali Baba's is really good, but they don't really have much beyond pitas. I tried looking through the Seven Nights system too, but I couldn't find anything. Did I miss a place? Or does anyone have a well kept secret?

While there aren't any strictly Greek places in the area, there are some options for good Greek dishes. The rule of thumb is to look for other Mediterranean cuisines, who might borrow from the Greeks.

The best gyros, bar-none are at Café Mediterano. They're carved from the big rotating kebab (the only one I've seen in Vermont) and get about 10% more awesome every time I try one. Last time, they tasted just like at my old standard back in New York.

There are Greek desserts and a kick-ass souvlaki at Betty's Beef and Seafood in St. Albans. I haven't been yet, but the owners of Papa Nick's in Hinesburg are Greek and do a Greek night every Thursday. If you're in Johnson, Farah's has the best dolmas I've ever had. Her spanakopita looks great, too.

OMG Alice - Cafe Mediterano looks delicious! Thanks for the other recommendations too - I think I'll have to drag my housemates to Cafe M soon!

We went there once, a long time ago, and possibly just after they'd first opened, and they didn't have that.  Their gyros were just sliced off a loaf and fried up on a griddle.  Since they have a rotating kebab now, we'll have to give them another go. Smiley  Thanks!

Here's an updated option, a Greek diner much like the ones I enjoyed back in New York: Apollo Diner in Milton
