I'm a stress eater. And a celebratory eater. Pretty much any emotion results in me creating an excuse to splurge. One of my favorites for that is Hoagie Hut. Most of the food is frozen and comes out of a bag, but what a bag! I love the fried chicken and the ridiculously large sandwiches.

My other favorite is the "Ribs & Chicken" dinner at Wings Over Burlington. Boneless wings and ribs = greatest thing ever.

What's your favorite when you want to do some crazy overeating?

Ribs I smoke at home, but that takes a long time. Smiley But it's sooo worth it.  I always smoke at least three racks at a time.  Mysteriously they never last more than a day, though.  What's WITH that?  Clearly I need to smoke more. More often, more racks...

I love cake. Cake is my go-to celebratory thing.

My boyfriend and I have found that we're exceedingly happy being mostly vegetarian and having meat for special occasions. When we're splurging we'll do something like garlic mashed potatoes, pan seared and/or oven broiled meat, and asparagus or broccolini sauteed in the meat pan (glazed with a little wine). Barely any seasoning needed - just a little garlic and coursely ground salt and pepper.

I was asking about restaurants, where I think splurges are by their very nature worse than at home. If we are talking home-cooking, it would have to be gorging on braised meats for me. Chocolate chili beef short ribs? Hell yeah.

I might finish off the meal with some just-out-of-the-freezer shadow, seven-layer or chocolate mousse cake from my hometown favorite bakery, St. Moritz in Greenwich, CT.

Oh, I getcha. and I have a perfect example.

Holy meatwad - my boyfriend and I went to the Ground Round last night for my birthday. Neither of us had been there since we were children but we were both in the mood for something greasy and wrong. I had the clubhouse burger which has a burger, sliced ham, and bacon on it! We also shared a True Blue margarita which we selected only because there was a picture on the drinks menu and it looked magnificently huge and the color of windshield washer fluid.

Our splurge is usually something totally gross and trashy like going to the fair and eating every type of fried, deep fried, or candied food item we can locate. Last year we had Italian sausage, maple cotton candy, caramel apples, fried dough, Al's fries, deep fried Oreos, corn dog, smoothies... erm... there may have been more. My memory is fading and needs refreshing - thank goodness the fair is coming up!

Speaking of gross (but totally delicious!), I love going to Al's french fries to get a corn dog and a strawberry chocolate milkshake. Fake strawberry flavor, chocolate syrup, and deep fried dog - I don't think life can get any better than that. For me at least. Wink
