I was invited to a brunch and quickly realized that the cinnamon buns I was planning on making needed to rise. Duh. So--onto my favorite website, a recipe haven, a place for everything wonderful: smittenkitchen.com . I ADORE this woman--not only the photos of her exceptionally beautiful child, but also her creative recipes, diverse set of ingredients and the deliciousness that stems from nearly every recipe I've tried.

So I browsed the site, with something "pumpkin-y" in mind: I found pumpkin cupcakes. With cream cheese frosting. Ugh. So. Addictive. I opted to make a cake instead of the cupcakes, as I'm a poor college student who doesn't even own a cupcake baking tin. Sigh. In any event--I decided to make a cake out of the batter and when scrounging for ingredients in my ill prepared pantry I didn't find the following, of which the recipe calls for: ground cloves, ground ginger and maple syrup. I added a pinch more of salt and found that the cake was really pretty good.

So even with the missing ingredients, the cake was really good, decadent even. It was a little to crumbly for me--not sure if it was the missing ingredients or something else. Any suggestions?

Also, here is the link to heaven: http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/11/pumpkin-cupcakes/

ENJOY!

That website is so cool Maggie! I got hungry just looking at all of the cupcake pictures. The woman who owns the site takes really good (and also particularly delicious looking) photos of her food. I'll have to try the recipe sometime — I'm a sucker for sweet things. If it turns out not so crumbly (with all the ingredients), I'll let you know!
