Being a Barista

I was recently in Uncommon Grounds with some of my friends for a cup of coffee, and we were discussing how cool it would be to work there and make all of the drinks. One of my friends did seem really keen on the idea, but she confessed that she knew nothing about making coffee. I realized that I didn't either other than making the basic cup of coffee at home French press style.

How do you learn how to do something like that? I know I could just youtube the topic, but I'm not sure if I could ever gain true barista prowess from youtube.
