Ben and Jerry's Spoons of Death!

Okay, not really spoons of death, but my boyfriend and I did have an odd experience last night.

We had gone downtown and decided to stop at Ben and Jerry's while there. We both needed spoons so grabbed the regular white plastic ones out of the "clean spoons" containers on the counter.

So, ten minutes later we're sitting on a bench on Church street. My boyfriend is finishing up his treat (peanut brittle ice cream in a waffle cone with caramel drizzle) and says that there's something wrong with his lip. We didn't make much of it and figured he'd bitten it accidentally or something. But then when I finished my ice cream (mint chocolate chunk cookie sundae) I realized that I had a raw spot on the under/inside of my lip, too, exactly where Scott had pointed to his mouth! We both suddenly had these weird, identical, mild abrasion spots.

The only thing we can think of is that the plastic spoons had especially sharp edges. The abraded areas are exactly where the spoon draws across the left side of the upper lip (we are both right handed). With every bite we creating a very small laceration in the tissue that added up to a raw spot. I think we didn't notice until afterward because A) the damage from each pass was so small and B) the coldness of the ice cream served as a mild, temporary anesthetic.

Isn't that weird?! We're not angry or suing them or anything crazy, I just thought it was funny and wondered if anyone else had ever had this experience.
