Food Book: Five Quarters of the Orange

Although a complete work of fiction, Five Quarters of the Orange is an engaging read that examines the way in which food connects families. Through tradition, recipe books, delicacies, etc., Joanne Harris' book is a delicious, foodie escape into a small village in France and an interesting look at the relationship of mothers and daughters.
I read this while abroad in Italy and found myself dying to try some of the recipes featured in the book--especially the ones that come from the mother's own imagination.
It seems to me that recently there has been a surplus of foodie books, most of them non-fiction, memoir types, recipe books, etc.--and although they are satisfying to read--I feel it's nice to indulge oneself in a work of fiction that beautifully connects food to human nature.
Again: "Five Quarters of the Orange" by Joanne Harris. Enjoy.
