Gillian Welch wants you to forget what you think you know about her. On her latest record with longtime musical soul mate David Rawlings, The Harrow & the Harvest, the songwriter rediscovers her personal connections to the Southern roots music that has brought her renown. But the album, largely recorded live with no overdubs, is less a love letter to her adopted Tennessee home than a stark rumination on the dark soul of the deep south, a sort of southern gothic masterwork set to music. This Wednesday, October 26, Welch and Rawlings give northern audiences a glimpse with a performance on the Flynn MainStage.
