If Jonathan Richman, Cake and Starfucker had a (very) awkward but moderately satisfying tryst and then wrote songs together — say, with pitch-shifting autoharp and trampoline-bouncy electro-laced beats — the result might sound something like Asheville’s Decent Lovers. The band’s bright, pop-centric tunes suggest that while these Lovers may be merely adequate in, ahem, certain arenas, on stage they are thoroughly stimulating.
