According to his Sub Pop Records bio, the music of Death Vessel is “unlike anything you’ve ever heard. People will call it many things. Few will get it right.” That being the case, we’ll err on the side of caution and just call it this: awesome. The Providence-based songwriter — aka Joel Thibodeau — is a legitimate artistic enigma and, quite honestly, does defy easy categorization. Those who prefer that their music exists in tidy little boxes might want to look elsewhere. But those with an ear for ingeniously crafted, provocative indie-folk — for lack of a better term — would be well served to swing by The Monkey House in Winooski this Thursday, June 4, to catch his set. Local favorites Paper Castles and Burette Douglas (The Cush) open up.
