In the beginning, God created the Grateful Dead. And He saw what He had made and said, “duuude.” The Big Guy was probably pretty psyched when Jerry Garcia passed on to the great festival in the sky. We earthbound mortals, however, were profoundly bummed. But Jerry’s spirit unquestionably lives on in ice cream flavors, tie-dyed kitsch and, of course, tribute bands. Now, there are tribute bands and there are Tribute Bands. And the world-renowned Dark Star Orchestra falls squarely in the latter category, faithfully recreating Dead shows in their entirety with unparalleled accuracy and reverence. So load up the VW bus and dust off the bong as the band sets up camp for a two-night stint at the Higher Ground Ballroom this Monday and Tuesday.
