When composing his latest album, America, Baltimore experimental pop auteur Dan Deacon considered the seemingly limitless connotations associated with the word and applied them to his music. The result, he writes, is a “layering of dichotomies,” a beautiful yet fractured work that is both light and dark, organic and synthetic, simple and complex.
