Seven Days Says:

Two New England singer-songwriters take the stage. The New Yorker called one a "folk-rock goddess"; the other has been described as "Groucho in a housecoat."

Twice as Nice

Boston-based singer-songwriter Catie Curtis seems to be living the sweet life — at least, that’s the theme and title of her latest pop-laced folk album. In songs such as the languid “What You Can’t Believe,” Curtis embraces the storm clouds to celebrate the silver lining. “You have to be able to look at all the bad news around you and still see the beauty that is there,” she affirms. The New Yorker-anointed “folk-rock goddess” joins established folk musician Cheryl Wheeler in a double-bill performance centered on seeing the better, or at least funnier, side of life. Funnier? That’s where Wheeler comes in. She intersperses her small-town-girl ballads with savagely funny performances where her sharp tongue attacks trend-obsessed culture. If you’re feelin’ blue, swing on by.
