Bands of blood relations have a long and fabled history in the annals of bluegrass music. From pioneering acts such as The Stanley Brothers to the legendary Del McCoury Band to modern progressive incarnations such as the late Nickel Creek, family resemblances run deep in the genre’s DNA. The latest scion of that illustrious bloodline is Cherryholmes. The Grammy-nominated six-member family band has taken the bluegrass world by storm, delighting traditionalists and neo-bluegrass fans alike. Publications around the country, including the New York Times, have hailed their high-octane live show — which features twin fiddles, Irish step dancing, country yodeling and, of course, red-hot pickin’ — as a wonder to behold. Or, as Naples Daily News music reviewer Peg Goldberg Longstreth puts it: “bluegrass on steroids.”
