Best veggie fare (Outside Chittenden County)

Kismet

Winner: 2009.

FORTUNATE FARE
Kismet’s first Daysie win, for Best Veggie Fare Outside Chittenden County, wasn’t a stroke of luck. Owners Crystal Maderia and Alanna Dorf strive to create unique, healthy fare that’s accessible to everybody. That’s why their eggs Benedict crêpe — a hollandaise sauce, raw-milk cheese and pea-shoot concoction — can be made with ham or tempeh. The ginger-miso soup bowl comes with tender braised chicken or golden tofu, and gluten-fearing folks can opt for sizzling rice in place of soba noodles. For dessert, build your own sweet crêpe, with or without dairy, or try a slice of flourless chocolate-truffle cake.

Visitors can now enjoy the eats, made almost entirely from local ingredients, in the resto’s new garden patio. Need some Kismet at your wedding? The owners cater, too.
