Best snack bar

Joe's Snack Bar (Jericho)

Winner: 2012.

Joe’s Snack Bar opened in Jericho in 1950 and has been a summer staple ever since, even inspiring a children’s book called Where Does Joe Go? by Vermont author-illustrator Tracey Campbell Pearson. The eponymous Joe Rotunda died in 2010, but his legacy lives on each summer at the snack bar, where his wife, Marilyn kozlowski, still serves up homemade fast food, plenty of greasy goodness and, of course, creemees.

SEVEN DAYS: How much oil do you go through in a summer?

MARILYN KOZLOWSKI: Pound-wise, about 5000 pounds a summer. [Pauses] We change our fryers a lot.
