Best coffee/teahouse (Outside Chittenden County)

Capitol Grounds

Winner: 2009.

THE BEAN SCENE
Vermont has no shortage of places to get jazzed on java, but Montpelier’s Capitol Grounds, on State Street not far from the Golden Dome, is a longstanding favorite. With its own nearby roastery and plenty of things to eat, the café is a hot spot for politicos, students and tourists alike. Some pop in for something to go, while others hang out for hours with their laptops, enjoying the river view.

Conscious coffee drinkers, take note: Capitol Grounds uses Fair Trade-certified beans, which are often organic as well. If you want to sip something more soothing, there are teas, Italian sodas and juices, too.
