After rising to stardom in the early 2000s on the heels of collaborations with the Chemical Brothers and William Orbit, British songwriter Beth Orton abandoned the cutting-edge “folktronica” sound that had become her calling card. Her 2006 record, Comfort of Strangers, favored a more stripped-down and intimate folk style than her previous albums, while retaining her nuanced and affecting writing. This Tuesday, April 10, Orton plays a solo acoustic set at the Higher Ground Showcase Lounge.
