Remember a couple of years ago when every hot new indie band under the sun had animal names — most commonly some derivative of “bear” or “wolf”? For a genre that prides itself on creative ingenuity, that lemming-like phenomenon is curious. Yet here we are again, amid wave after wave of indie outfits with monikers evoking seaside fun. The latest? Brooklyn’s Beach Fossils, who certainly trade in a breezy, salt-air aesthetic that fans of Beach House, Waaves or Surfer Blood will enjoy, but employ an artistic tack that sets them apart.
