The Avett Brothers are a case study in the economy of sound. With scarcely more than acoustic guitar, banjo and bass, the North Carolina trio fills the air with an impossibly rich aural tapestry. Though their most recent album Emotionalism finds the band branching out into wider sonic terrain, the core of their music remains the same: direct, earnest songwriting given life via beautifully simple melodic structures and harmonies. This Tuesday, the boys swing through the Higher Ground ballroom for a show with Vermont’s own songwriting sensation, Kris Gruen.
