In the two years since the release of their last album, the defiantly abrasive Worldwild, Brooklyn’s Pterodactyl have chilled the eff out. At least a little bit. The band’s new album — and third for Jagjaguar sub-imprint Brah Records — Spills Out finds the trio tempering its trademark frenetic art-noise with a decidedly melancholy mood swing and an unabashedly pop-centric approach. Though no less adventuresome or provocative than the earlier work, the record marks a notable evolution in both style and substance. This Wednesday, December 14, Pterodactyl play the Monkey House in Winooski.
