John Maus has long been known for wildly engaging live performances. But through a pair of “official” albums and a smattering of other various releases, he had yet to truly capture that raw, visceral energy on record. Until now. Maus’ new album, We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves, is an alternately frenzied and delicate effort that NPR accurately describes as “thrilling, manic and utterly addictive.” Maus plays the Monkey House in Winooski this Saturday, July 2.
